Committed to all forms of learning at all levels
A range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes such as Social Sciences, Early Childhood, Social Work, Arts, Marketing, Tourism, Business and Leadership are on offer at varying levels and progression routes, with strong research resources in the areas of tourism, social sciences, marketing and business.
We are also extremely committed to postgraduate and executive education with master’s programmes in areas such as leadership, social work and marketing and a number of on-line programmes such as Business, Social Sciences and Marketing. We have 130 teaching staff and 2,000 students
The faculty values its strong links with industry and most students in the faculty experience significant periods of work placement as part of their course work. Our teaching staff are experts of their subject and many of our lecturers have worked in industry.
The Faculty of Business won the best business and third level collaboration at the Education Awards in 2018.
External engagement is a key feature of the faculty and the faculty works with a number of professional bodies where there is recognition of IT Sligo programme content.
We value recognition – some of the professional bodies who accredit our courses are Insurance Institute of Ireland, The Life Insurance Association, Chartered Accountants Ireland, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and Certified Public Accountants
Individual programme teams are engaged with industry and community to ensure the continued relevance of our programmes and the employability of our graduates. Alumni of the faculty are working at the highest levels both nationally and internally and individual examples can be found in our alumni section.

Meet the Head of Faculty
Dr. Michael Barrett joined IT Sligo in 1999 and has held a number of positions in the institute. Prior to his appointment as Head of Faculty in May 2017, Michael held roles as Head of Department of Business and also Information Systems and worked on secondment on a number of change management projects. He also lead the development of the BA (Honours) in Insurance Practice Irelands first degree level apprenticeship in collaboration with the Insurance Institute of Ireland and the Life Insurance Association.
Graduating from the University of Bath DBA in Higher Education Management in December 2016, Michael’s research interests include student experience and student retention.
